Exhibition SecondSquat - Spatial Game and Utopia

SecondSquat has developed since january and it is now until 15th of july exhibited as an interactive installation in real life. Please see for further information www.ctopia.net

And sorry for the blue "wall" at "angewandte" during the real life exhibition - it was the only way not confuse the exhibition visitors (of real life), because of the special navigation interface used at the exhibition. But it seems to make fun flying like this through… Continue

Opening *SecondSquat SQ* Saturday 24th january 09

from 5AM SLT until 11AM or so...
(Vienna-Time 14h -18h...)

*SecondSquat SQ* is a "game for two players, who squat
spaces with their flying ability....

The Idea for "SecondSquat SQ" came up to me
when my expected hope - to be able to discover
the SL-world by flying over it - was disap… Continue

flea - body - contest

What is a game without a contest? I like to travel as adventure. But in all MMO's I know, traveling is not possible, because I have to play the game to come along. My expectation to sl was, that I wouldn't have to solve any tasks to fly over it. Sure, but it is like sitting in a cage as canary. Strange frontiers build from peoples
who claim privacy stopped unexpected my ability to fly and to discover. So I became a flea, more jump and bang than fly....

I will involve these experience int… Continue

life curves in the field of strategies?

One of the biggest virtual game today is the stock market - I like the curves going up, coming down - and to be honest - I don't think I'm the only one who thinks, that it shows before all,

the feelings of gamblers - fears, hopes, disappointments - a game of pure chance where strategies are the most searched (and… Continue

coincidence dice?

What is the coincidence in a virtual, programmed world? A random generator will throw a dice and let him fall.

And the throw will be manipulated from ones hand, through the mouse, and the second life sign of a hand ...who is now the marionette? Compare to the "real" world a absolutely different underst… Continue

The Play Element of virtual Culture?

Referring to Johan Huinziga's essay "homo ludens" about the play element of* culture,
i think second life could be analyzed as a place for games - in the sense of a playful practice from culture in the three-dimensional, virtual environment.

Because games are used to claim an own space and time dimension they also are defined as a parallel universe. In these universe the competition, coincidence and the prize are playing a central role with own rules.

With a "work in progress"-installat… Continue

Where is the game?

"...virtual worlds are not games. Even the ones written to be games aren't games. People can play games in them, sure, and they can be set up to that end, but this merely makes them venues. The Pasadena Rose Bowl is a stadium, not a game.

Virtual worlds are places. They may simulate abstractions of reality; they may be operated as a service, creating them may be an art; people may visit them to play games. Ultimately, though, they're just a set of locations. Places."

fuzzy janus exist in real, tangible life - as a 3d glass statue - eternalized. It will be always (?) there - because I ain't or probably fuzzy janus ain't...
